Abstract
This experiment was conducted to investigate the effects of dipping the clusters in various plant growth regulators on the maturity of Campbell Early grape cultivar.
Results obtained were summarized as follows:
1. Ancymidol, uniconazol, chlormequat and ABA completed the coloring of grapeberries in August 16, 1989 and had no effects on stimulation of coloring while NAA, IBA, IAA, GA, and kinetin delayed the coloring about 20 days, and BA did about 30 days as compared to the control. BA treatment induced uniform color development of berries in the same cluster.
2. The maturity estimated on soluble solid content(over 13%) was quite different between treatment; ancymidol, uniconazol chlormequat, ABA and the control completed maturation in August 24, while IAA did in August 29, IBA in September 5, Kinetin and GA in September 10, and BA in September 19, respectively. BA treatment induced ununiform maturity of berries in the same clusters.
3. The tendency of anthocyanin content appeared similar to those of the coloring of the berries. The growth retardants such as ancymidol, uniconazol, chlormequat and ABA showed similar amount of anthocyanin, while the growth stimulators such as IAA, IBA, NAA, GA, kinetin and BA delayed the anthocyanin accumulation as compared to the control. Acidity of berries showed reversed tendency from those of the soluble solid content.
4. The GA and ABA slightly increased the berry size while other treatments did no effects.
5. The effect of all the growth regulators in this experiment was very localized; thus, the untreated berries within the same cluster did not affected by those growth regulators.
